Longer term, we'll be fine. Shorter term, we had a good thing going and
it was about to get a lot better. We had a solid foundation, success in our first year in the Big12, and some prized recruits coming in.

All that is quite possibly out the window, even if we get a good coach.

We'll be starting fresh, almost certainly with some of that foundational roster gone and almost certainly with one or more of the prized recruits following Pope to UK or heading elsewhere. It's likely that the new guy will have to scour the transfer portal for players that both fit BYU and can legitimately compete in the Big12 to rebuild the roster. That's a tall order.

It's just not as easy to put together a roster at BYU. It takes planning, patience, and multi-year recruiting efforts. It will be very difficult to repair the damage we're likely to see in the next few days in time for the 2024-2025 season.

I believe the AD and University are committed to putting a competitive product on the floor, so I'm confident that we'll eventually get back to this point. But having to start over hurts.
