Here's my idea
It will basically professionalize the sport but it's like that way now anyway and I don't see a way back to the amateurism now that they let the cat of the box.

My idea is that players sign contracts and they can negotiate terms (money, void of contract if coach leaves, years, etc.). If they sign a multi-year contract and want to transfer before their contract is up then have it be like professional soccer where the team that wants to get that player has to buy them (pay the buyout or release clause in the player's contract) from the team that the player is leaving. This way teams can benefit from developing a player who wants to go on to bigger and better things. If the player only signs a 1 year contract then yes they could transfer without penalty as free agents. I think this would help a lot of the wild west situation going on and I do feel bad for smaller programs who develop a player and he transfers to a bigger program while the smaller program gets nothing in return.
