Past Coach / Next Coach Perspectives - from someone who just might have the
biggest reasons to care!

First, I love coach Mark Pope and his wife Lee Anne. They have been fantastic with our son. They won us over the first time we met them. No one was more disappointed than me when my phone started blowing up with the news this past week. I didn't sleep much that next night, even made a couple of unanswered phone calls very early the next morning. However, I believe that Heaven was and is behind Coach Pope's past job, and his now current job. Everything had to line up for this to happen and I believe he will be wildly successful at Kentucky. Imagine a man with integrity, charisma, and testimony running perhaps THE bluest BLUE BLOOD team. He will win with great kids, fantastic fan base, and unbelievable resources. And I know for a fact he was not seeking this job or looking for an out at BYU. If he would have stayed, BYU would have been super successful in the Big 12 the next few years.

Second, Heaven was and is behind who our next coach will be. God has been orchestrating a future for my son since we explored adoption over 18 years ago. And I believe the next coach will be the perfect person for him and the cast of teammates he will be playing with the next 4-5 years. Coach Pope was in the right place and time to attract him to BYU, despite this biggest "Aggies all the way" dad. I also believe the next coach will be the EXACT right person to attract and keep the top LDS player talent at BYU, including a few names mentioned often on this site, last names that start with C, K, B, J, and W! And this next version of BYU basketball will compete and succeed in the BIG 12. There will be an uncomfortable transition and some youngsters will be tested early, but there will be success and hopefully some nets cut down soon!

Finally, Cody Fueger has been fantastic. If he follows Mark to Kentucky, it will be the perfect launching pad for his future as a head coach. If he stays at BYU, we will all be blessed.

Time to get off the soap box. And I slept great last night!
