We get super frustrated when we think BYU just hires guys who only want to be BYU guys. "They don't have drive," "They aren't hungry," "Coaching is just a J.O.B. and not a passionate career," etc. etc. etc.

The criticism has always been, "Where do these coaches go after BYU?" Typically it has been...nowhere. They go into sales or some other career.

Now, we have a coach who has loved BYU. Bought into BYU 100%, recruited well, and gave us one of the best and funniest seasons we've experienced since Jimmer's years. Now that this one has ambition and WANTS to be in coaching as a career, we get ticked. Makes no sense to me.

You have a HC at BYU who was not just in the pool of candidates for UK (which is amazing in and of itself). But he took the job, they want him! That is not a bad thing.

This is the equivalent of BYU HC coach being offered the Notre Dame job. Can you imagine that?

The double standards we hold for our coaches and players boggles my mind. Yes, it sucks Pope is gone. He was fun and I was looking forward to next year, but he did the right thing for himself and HIS career. Money was certainly a factor but who would turn down the job at UK, especially as an alumni?

We'll figure this out. I don't think Hall is going to UK. Likely testing the waters and hopefully, it forces the AD to quickly get a new coach.
