depends on your car. Some take nuts and bolts, some take self tappers, some
take machine screws. If you're going into plastic, odds are wood screws or the like would work as long as they're thick enough to bite.
Probably want stainless steel so they don't rust.

buy them from an auto parts store and then you know they'll work. They're cheap too.

Licence plate screws generally have a wide head so they don't have to use a washer to mount.
