Since Tom Holmoe took over he has hired 2 Football and 3 Basketball coaches, where do you rank them all?
My thoughts. . .
Bronco - Very risky, turned out that Bronco's run from '06-'09 was the best 4 year run BYU has had since the early 80's. Still a risky choice and Kyle Whittingham was the #1 choice that didn't happen.
Kalani Sitake - Fine choice, the 2020-2021 seasons were great, 2022 was full of hope, but fell short. If Kalani left, BYU has several good options to hire.
Dave Rose - I don't remember much about him being hired. Great coach with an amazing run, after he got pancreatic cancer he slowed down as a coach. But overall a great coach, 4x MWC regular season champs, Jimmermania, solid choice. But the combination of cancer survivor and the Lone Peak 3 never playing together. the time in WCC was not as good as his time in the MWC.
Mark Pope, Seemed like a slam dunk and easy hire. he was an assistant at BYU, was doing well at UVU. I assumed he would get the job, and then he got the job.
Kevin Young, bigger than my reach candidate. I hoped that BYU would get Mark Madsen, but getting Kevin Young was a complete surprise and I am very happy.
Note: I assumed Chris Burgess didn't want to be at BYU (Left BYU after Big12 invite, Daughter committed to Utah while the Pac12 was on life support) But CB informed me that Burgess definitely wants to be at BYU, he just went to Utah for more pay.)
