program history. He was told his contract was not being renewed and to look for other options after he stated that independence was not sustainable. He is a highly respected coach in college football and we have since downgraded. Bronco has complimented BYU many times since he left even saying he didn't want to play BYU because of the respect he has for the program.
Pope was all about potential. He was a tireless recruiter who gave us what would have amounted to 3 #6 seeds or better in the NCAA tournament but couldn't play one because of Covid. He struggled in post season tournaments both in league and going 0-2 in the NCAA. The cupboard was left bare for him but he had built up our program to a higher level of player than we had seen in sometime. But he was always a Kentucky guy and always had that as his dream job. If he could get that job he was leaving 100%. BYU appears to have upgraded since replacing him. Pope so far has had nothing good to say about BYU and is trying his best to gut the program.
