Porter's suspension even more important. If the NBA is benefitting from sports betting, it is even more crucial that they reassure bettors that there are no "shenanigans" involved.

As someone who ummmmmm.... may or may not occasionally take a "financial" interest in the outcome of NBA games, I can honestly say that nothing would chase me off faster than the perception that players, coaches, or referees were "fixing" games.

The NBA is not taking some kind of "moral stand" by suspending Porter. They are signaling to customers that they can safely waste their money gambling on the league knowing that when they lose, they will have at least lost fair and square.

All that said.....how stupid is Jontay Porter? I mean, he probably had an opportunity to earn maybe $20 million dollars or more over the course of at nice, journeyman 6-7 year NBA career, and he blew it to win $20,000? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
