I really hope Young the best. It's not like Pope was all that successful a recruiter at BYU, so I am hopeful he can maybe outshine Pope in that regard in the next few years. But as an overall HC candidate, Young vs Pope is not NEARLY the lopsided win in our favor that many of our fans think that it is right now.

Believe me when I say I would LOVE to eat crow on this in a couple years. I expect Kevin to face a ton of struggles early on in the Big 12, but I'll be pulling hard for him to beat all the odds. I love the hire, but is was it was hardly a home-run hire... unless, of course you consider how pathetically slim BYU's hiring pool for HC candidates typically is.

As for Detmer as a OC (particularly for a brand-new HC & staff) — yeah, that was beyond hare-brained. I really wish Tom had had no hand in that deal.
