BlooCoug Intervention Needed
5 things I loved from Kevin Young’s press conference:
1) The first thing out of his mouth was a long list of thank yous; he did not do the rah, rah hyperactive routine, which was refreshing.

2) He’s a very authentic, sincere, humble, relatable person. That’s going to be a huge asset in how he relates to players, recruits, and recruits’ parents.

3) He could have dropped a lot of big names of players and coaches he’s worked with, but he didn’t, which tells you he’s not a spotlight seeking kind of person, but more the kind that just wants to get to work and get the job done.

4) He explicitly said his goal was never to be an NBA head coach but just to develop young men, which made me feel better that he’s not going to bolt back to the NBA if he gets an offer anytime in the near future. His comment that the only thing he’ll miss in the NBA is the relationships, not the crazy lifestyle, solidified that feeling. And the cherry on top was how excited his wife was about coming back to her Alma mater and their family being able to be around the BYU community, which, for those of you guys who are married, you know how much influence wives have on these types of decisions. Happy wife, happy life.

5) He emphasized that he knows all his BYU players want to play in the NBA, and he knows how to develop NBA talent so they can reach their goals. That has to be music to the ears of players who are on the fence between leaving or staying.

Fun press conference. It appears we got a good one, friends. I’m excited for this next chapter!
