Ultimately, it's about the relationship Fans have with their Team, Coach, and
school. What's involved here is Loyalty. Loyalty is a strange thing and mostly misunderstood.
Loyalty is not just expected, it is demanded in the military, the corporate world, families, and it spills over to the sports world.
All of us here on CB are here because we have affection and Loyalty to the BYU sports brand. We are invested emotionally, time wise, and money. We are Loyal to BYU and want them to succeed.

What's strange about Loyalty is, for it to work, it has to flow both up and down. (This is especially true in the military where soldiers are Loyal to there point of giving their lives and dying. Soldiers give their lives, doing their duty and being Loyal.). The officers up the chain of command have to recognize this extreme nature of Loyalty and themselves be Loyal back down the chain - "No man left behind."

Here at BYU the Loyalty and Duty required goes way beyond any other school with the Honor Code, church attendance, tithing, etc.
The school and the church are intertwined and the DNA of the church permeates everywhere throughout the DNA of BYU the school. No other university demands and gets such devotion and Loyalty to "the cause" as BYU does.

I submit that BYU sports fans are invested and Loyal to BYU deeper and more completely than most other sports programs in the country.
BYU sports fans travel well and show up in droves all over the country, because of Loyalty. Remember, Loyalty goes up, and must be returned and come down for it to work. Mark Pope failed in his part of returning the Loyalty to BYU fans by not giving a simple "Thank you for your support, Love and Loyalty to us and our team. We will never forget you." Asking for that, is not petty. It's simple, and powerful.
