There are some really smart people in the world who are dumber than a bag of
rocks. In MBTI terms, I'm a strong N and I think it's specifically strong S types that frequently drive me absolutely insane. It's like there's no ability to extrapolate info from one point to the next. Every single time you do the same process, it's like a brand new investigation.

Just had a phone call with a contractor we're trying to get to do some application/data work for us. I'm a data guy myself and I notice problems with a national dataset that we're asking the contractor to ingest and I'm trying to relay this info to one of our contractors. I start from the national dataset, filter it down with a few queries, and then demonstrate for him that when filtering this way, there are values missing that we wouldn't expect to be, looks like a problem with the data and now I'm questioning whether we can use this data.

His response is, "well, you haven't finished filtering the data". I was stunned and didn't know how to respond without showing my disdain for his stupidity. I tried to find the most polite way to say "so, you think if we continue filtering MORE, then some of the missing values will turn back up??" Then he went on some mini rant about "we can't use hypothetical data, we can't just make assumptions" and other really inane, nonsensical points.

So, spoiler alert here ... I filtered the data the rest of the way and the missing values did NOT show back up. He was surprised. I was not. Ugh. And this guy is quite a decent developer, but ... seriously, Ugh.
