Alan Schaefer Walk-on
It’s gonna take me years, if ever, to get used to players switching teams every
year and playing for 3-4 different programs in their college career. Especially our BYU players.

I’m trying not be “whiny” about it because it is what it is, and nothing is gonna change it. And I am happy that players can make money I guess.

But one of the big issues I used to have with the NBA as it was morphing into what it is now, which is a way worse product than it used to be for a lot of reasons, was how much NBA players moved around every year. They had too much power and you just couldn’t get invested or feel connected to a team.

Now compared to what college sports has turned into, the NBA player movement seems like a good example of the eternal marriage discussion. LOL.

I guess we’re gonna have to just change our thinking and acknowledge that it’s basically gonna be “One Year Teams”. And for the most part, that will be the norm.

I do wonder how much the collateral damage byproducts will end up being a +/- for players overall in their lives.

-No more, or at least alot less “All Time Greats” or “Legends”. How can you claim that if you play for 3 different programs?

-No more lifetime alumni/former player benefits, connections, “hookups”. Or “hero worship” from fans their whole lives. Fans aren’t gonna consider them one of their own if they play for 3-4 different programs. We will still be fans of them of course, just different. Like with the Mika discussion today, I forget all the time that he even played at BYU, but I’m convinced if he had stayed another year or two, he would’ve cemented himself as an all time legend here.
