So assume the average Power 5 / Big East NIL per basketball player is $75k (link at bottom). Average team has 16 players (13 schollys and 3 walk-ons).
Then making quick assumptions on the MC layout and ticket prices, etc . . . the revenues for the season end up being $10.5m?
Assume we pay average of $75k per player. That is $1.2m extra per year. Add that to current assumed revenues of $10.5m — so we need ticket prices to bring in $11.65m/year. Ticket prices go up by 11% if we make player pay part of ticket prices?
So my point — I would much rather pay 11% more for my tickets — or hike up the Cougar Club fees by xx% — rather than deal with this whole NIL deal where I feel the need to contribute to several different collectives — or expecting Ryan Smith or Mountain America to pick up the tab? btw — side note, have you noticed how involved Mountain America is with BYU specifically, but western college sports in general? I know they support the other school as well (hopefully not as much as BYU) — but also Arizona State. Probably other schools as well. Nice they pick-up the tab for some of these NIL deals as well via commercials and other sponsorships. My bet is Cody Epps transfer/not transfer last year was thwarted by the Mountain America commercial he showed up on a month after his switch back to BYU. And I am an AFCU customer so this is not a commercial for them or anything, but if they keep picking up the tab for more of these Cody Epps/Jackson Robinson/Jacob Robinson/etc deals then I'll have to switch over so I can indirectly support NIL via Mtn America.
Ticket price support below — really rough numbers, but at least gives me an idea . . .
