We needed him to. He handled big 5s better than he did athletic 4s. He could run them off the court
& front them in the paint pretty effectively.
From what I could see, though — he's got solid enough quickness & lateral shake to handle just about any 3 out there. And quite a few athletic off guards as well. Can he guard there as effectively as Richie? Not most matchups, but I think Richie was also often more effective against the 4s Noah struggled with.
I do like Noah as an overall offensive mismatch against SFs as well as Bigs.
