Important to note the winners haven’t qualified for the Olympics quite yet. There are several tournaments that occur before the Olympics. These guys have to go to those and “qualify the weight”.

Several interesting notes:
1. Seven of the 12 finalists are currently coached by Cael Sanderson.
2. Two Penn State alum vs. Penn State alum matchups (Retherford vs. Lee, Brooks vs. Taylor)
3. David Taylor is the reigning Olympic gold medalist, and he got beat by the college kid
4. Spencer Lee and Thomas Gilman are both Iowa guys; this seems like the changing of the guard where the young buck is taking over for the grizzled vet
