That comes with it's own set of societal and economic issues which are far worse than traffic.

The Wasatch front is just a smaller version of what happened to southern California. The main valleys have filled up and expansion must continue into the adjacent valleys. Congestion is awful but that's pretty normal with a major metroplex which salt lake City is now.
