Players have more loyalty to coaches and money than schools.
The thing here is the fact that Kentucky needs Richie somewhat shows that Pope isn’t off to a great start with recruiting. They’re used to landing multiple 4-5 stars. However, filling out their roster with a bunch of 18 year old 4-5 stars hadn’t exactly worked either so it’s probably a good move by Pope to get him a play hard experienced baller like Sanders. But how much he’ll play there seems to be in doubt, but he probably feels Pope will give him a fair shot while he can make some good $$$$$$ too.
Just like Chandler if he doesn’t get the PT he wants, he can always transfer again next year. That’s the biggest sham of what’s going on. The ncaa tried to push back on the one transfer rule without sitting out a year, but unfortunately the courts basically nixed it. There needs to be some sort of change that allows schools to enter into written contracts with players and then some terms could be added and enforced, in exchange for more clear payments.
