We were a 6 seed (that would’ve probably been a 5 with Sunday play) in the ncaa tourney. The 21st overall seed.
UK was the 11th overall seed.
10 spots in college basketball is not a large gap. UK would’ve been favored against us probably by about 5 on a neutral floor, and yes- UK historically has gotten NBA talent. But to think our guys aren’t good enough to even see the floor there is silly.
Look at Richie’s numbers (6th most mpg for BYU) versus the numbers of UKs Justin Edwards (6th in mpg for UK).
Very, VERY similar production.
Yes Edwards is an NBA talent. Given a longer leash and another year of development, he would surpass Richie.
But players like him don’t stay in college. Players like Richie do. Richie will be a quality piece for Pope and I believe he will be their first player off the bench next year and prove worthy to start as a senior.
