BYU is going to try and angle KY and his "NBA Assistant(s)" as the best possible coaches in the NCAA to prepare someone for the NBA draft.
Now for someone that has legit NBA lottery prospects ~$1M in NIL may not necessarily move the needle in the grand scheme. The greatest material impact to this player is how can I incrementally move up in the NBA draft? How does KY take my game from a late-round draft pick to a lottery pick? My rookie contract could go from $12M to $25M+. The calculus is can KY can take my game, showcase it at BYU, improve it fundamentally, and align it to an NBA offense better than any other option in the NCAA? Will this move pay off with NBA scouts or should I just take a few extra $100K in NIL now?
The most ideal profile for a recruit may even be a non-US Resident on future NBA draft boards. I'm under the assumption that non-US residents currently can't even be paid NIL. I've heard conflicting info on this, so it may or may not be legit. If it is legit, then BYU is on an even playing field as everyone else in that respect and can use draft stock maximization as their primary selling point.
Right now I guarantee this is what is being sold. If they can actually execute on this then BYU and KY are set up for a nice sweet spot in future recruiting.
