The Kings as a franchise are finally doing alright after 2 decades of misery, but look at all the guys they could have drafted with that #2 pick, but instead went with Marvin Bagley III (listed in order of when they were picked):
- Luka Doncic (3)
- Jaren Jackson, Jr. (4)
- Trae Young (5)
- Mikal Bridges (10)
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (11)
- Jalen Brunson (33)
That's 3 legit MVP candidates (Luka, SGA, Brunson) and 3 other All-Star/fringe All-NBA guys (maybe JJJ and Bridges don't quite fit that, but they're right there.)
Even if you just look at quality starter-level players you've got (again, listed in original pick order):
- Collin Sexton (8)
- Michael Porter, Jr. (14)
- Donte DiVencenzo (17)
- Kevin Huerter (19)
- Grayson Allen (21)
Then there's the guys like Lonnie Walker IV (18), Mo Wagner (25), Robert Williams III (27), and Mitchell Robinson (36) who have arguably had as good a career if not better than Bagley, but were picked late 1st, early 2nd round.
I know hindsight is 20/20 and all, but with the depth of talent available, it's still crazy how the Kings just got absolute crap value for such a high pick in an awesome draft class.
Note: I didn't include Miles Bridges in the above because, while he's a quality player, I think he should be banned from the league for being a garbage person.
