He also had terrible luck in 2020 when his best byu team didn’t get a chance to play due to Covid.
You could say he should have won a conference championship at UVU but that program was having losing seasons before he took over.
There was no chance at a conference title at BYU - Gonzaga was a top 5 team nearly every year and his last season was in the big 12.
Again, if your only measure of substance is ncaa tournament wins and conference championships then you have a point. Ultimately BYU is not that type of program that can win conference championships over top 5 programs.
Having top 20 teams at BYU is still a big deal though given the limitations of BYU.
NCAA success imo would be viewed differently if the 2020 team had a chance.
