And sometimes people have inside connections and those connections may have more
knowledge than the average person but still not the full picture, because in order to have the full picture you'd need more than just one or two sources. Even if your BFF is a high profile member of the AD they likely don't know everything going on. Just the information they are privy to and scoped through their own perspective.

While there is some of that, the other factor is that people change their minds, and situations change.
