Unless I fly out of Dallas again and have to be in the terminal at 5am, before the regular rental car companies open up. I was more afraid of leaving a rental car without checking in and getting a receipt from an actual person than I thought the Turo hassle would be. Too many people are accused of never returning their rental car and much pain and suffering ensue.
The rate for the Toyota SUV from Turo was about a little more than a similar car from a rental company, but add in the $20 it cost me to get out of the parking garage (which is not made clear, just that you'll have to pay to get it out, but no dollar value given), and the time it took me to take a bunch of pictures when I picked it up and again when I dropped it off, then walk a mile from parking to the terminal and worry about the guy claiming I had done some damage that I didn't do, I'd never do it again.
Also, within a mile or so of the airport a check engine light came on, I was acutely aware that if something catastrophic happened I would be dealing with some guy named Ahmad that would likely pin it all on me. Not so with a large rental car company.
It cost me more money, time, stress and hassle, but I'm still wary of dropping off a rental without a receipt. I'll probably just never book a ticket out of Dallas that leaves that early.
