Keeping A Rod around only has exacerbated this problem. The recruiting and transfer portal prospects have been grim. A Rod is terrible but CB still seems infatuated with 1990s WAC offenses and doesn't seem to get A Rod is incompetent. These aren't WAC or G5 defenses. Blah Blah Blah on Zack Wilson and Jaren Hall in the NFL - both bench warmers and whom Kalani had just as much to deal with recruiting as A Rod. Not to mention Zack Wilson's 2020 stats were against G5 garbage teams and the Power 5 wins in 2021 against Arizona, ASU, Virginia, WSU, and USC were all teams with losing records; we beat a Utah team that hadn't found its rhythm but got manhandled by Baylor and lost to a mediocre BSU. It is possible to be a great position coach but terrible coordinator. 2022's O line was terrible but the atrocious defense provided a convenient excuse. 2023 against Big 12 competition was the excuse for last year (but somehow they want to use 2021 as a reason why we can compete?). The warning signs have been there since 2021 (UAB game anyone?) but CB will still be in denial until late October.
A Rod is going to once again not be on the same page with the OL coach and OL and he's going to dazzle us with the plays he pulled of Madden Live for repeated 3 and out drives and 20 minute Time of Possessions. But he'll blame it on the defense not keeping the other school's offense off the field.
Sadly, I will be rubbing a big fat "I told you so" in the faces of the A Rod apologists come December after a 3-9 season. It will only prove this season was a waste of time and the rebuilding should have started last December by firing A Rod.
