In fact, as some have been proposing getting the doctor involved, it often
backfires. Kudos to you for explaining this in a calm, rational and even keel way. The last thing a hospital needs is a doctor blasting on thinking he knows how to run a hospital... because he doesn't and patients should not expect the doctors to overrule. It's unfair to put the doctor in that position.
