Fous is more polished-but that is to be expected.
I thought Isaac showed more potential to guard on the perimeter and would be a 4 in college. While Fous is very much a back to basket player only. Isaac has back the basket capability but he also already has a decent mid range game and I think will develop a full perimeter shooting game by his 3rd year in college. I don't know how well Isaac will be able to penetrate and take folks off the bounce once he develops a perimeter game but there was nothing in what I saw from him (basic ability to move and handle the ball) that caused me to believe it was a bridge too far. He is nimble, able to change directions fluidly and do all the things that I believe would translate into an ability to penetrate with the ball in his hands.
I like Isaac a lot. To me him choosing to play football his senior year was a big deal and a huge indicator of what type of teammate he would be. My only criticism of him is that as athletic as he is I thought he should have been more dominant on the boards and in blocking shots. Sometimes I thought his athletic dominance allowed him be a little lazy-but that is something that could easily improve as the caliber of opponents improve with the jump from Idaho 4A hoops to D1 hoops.
Whether or not KY is making a mistake-time will tell. Likely very few of us really know everything that went into the decisions both KY and Isaac came to-and to be honest it isn't our business on either side. I will say this...if this is purely a "system fit" decision I find it curious because with all the years I have of watching BYU sports I am skeptical that BYU can recruit and maintain year to year enough athletes capable enough to make a kid like Isaac Davis expendable. But perhaps it really is a new age of BYU basketball.
