You are right on. Hockey though, at least where I live has some of the most
"I'm better than you" fans I have ever seen. On the radio these types are simply referred to as "hockey guy". Hockey guy could hear a coach say jersey and then in the next sentence make fun of someone new to the sport for using the same term and say it is a sweater.

The only other sport I have seen locally that has these types is "European Soccer Guy". "You don't know who the Spurs are, why are you alive?"

I exaggerate obviously. I am sure it stems from the fact that most people around here aren't experts on hockey nor European soccer. I have seen enough Avalanche Hockey to know the intricacies of the game. It is a fun game to watch and fantastic in person. But be aware of the guy next to you who might make fun of you for being new to the sport. Just like European Soccer guy who will make fun of you for calling boots cleats and the playing surface a field and not a pitch.
