Clavell wrote like 6 books in the series. They jump about 50-100 years between
books. They could probably take book 2 (Tai Pan, I think) and condense down the timeline and use a lot of the same characters from Season 1 and run it as a continuation of Season 1.
It's been a long time since I read the books, but it probably could be managed that way.
