There's a lot of things that happen in California that I thought were preposterous under ordinary legal analysis, but seem to keep happening.

A good case in point is the whole independent contractor/employee relationship California went after with Uber/Lyft, etc.  Somehow they found independent contractors in the gig economy to be employees worthy of benefits, employee taxation, etc.  

Just saying nothing surprises me these days.
