It’s the smile effect. Happy when young adult, then pressure builds with life,
work, marriage, kids, and responsibility, and then typically in retirement people get happy again as they were as young adults. I thinks it’s fairly normal to be your most unhappy in 40s and 50s. It’s the low part of adulthood for many. Stay the course, and if the unhappiness persists for more than a couple days or is severe enough that suicidal ideation is happening, get some counseling immediately and look to get some medication.
