whole new story line with only the premise of why there is even a kingdom of Apes on the planet needed. It's really all new characters and set further in the future from the original 3.

That being said, It might help to have seen them to make it a little more interesting. And all three of the originals are better than this movie. I only thought this one was okay. It's slower moving than the other three.
