with The religious principles that BYU represents such as not being told how to deal with LGBT stuff but as far as gender equality when it comes to athletics they comply so you are right about that. The school itself doesn't receive public funds, but the students receive student loans and financial aid so I guess that counts. I suspect that if it came down to the government being able to control whatever BYU does, the church might cut off all ties with the school or it might cease two exist altogether.
