Unlimited free agency is not a good thing for college sports. Using the portal to shop your value is the new source of leverage for players. The transfer portal is the primary reason NIL is getting out of control. It’s the enabler that makes all the bidding wars possible.

The dirty little secret in college sports is that there is lots of poaching going on by many schools. Most likely collectives so it’s done at arms length.

The portal seems to be the one thing the NCAA has some influence over. They seem to be sitting on their hands as their most valuable assets are getting slaughtered in the eyes of their biggest fans and supporters.

Wish they would do something to slow the constant movement of players. It’s just not good for college sports.

Until those writing the checks (fans/donors) tire of the poor ROI nothing will likely change.
