In the 1980s, all sorts of corporate Bubba types got really upset that GM was getting its hind end kicked by Japanese imports and petitioned Congress to start taxing all phases of the process. This resulted in Japan opting to build cars in Marysville, OH and other US locations. The overall quality immediately went down as our illustrious auto union workers began assembling cars with the same lack of detail that plagued US automakers.
