RE: Travel recommendation for Iceland? Van camp vs. hostel/hotel
I’ve now done Iceland twice. Once by campervan and once with hotels/airbnbs. Campervan was much better. Get the large van with bunk beds in the back and an area for kitchen supplies. Get the propane grill. Get a hotspot for cell service.

Plenty of camping parks around the island. Some better than others. About 1/3 the time with showers and/or washer/dryer. Travel ring road and get off anytime you get an itch to explore. Breathtaking scenery.

After renting the vehicle, stop by Costco in Reykjavik for supplies, then go across the street to IKEA for sheets and pillowcases. Then head out. We went counter clockwise. Map it out before you go. So many cool things to see.

Make a day trip to Westman Island where they joined the LDS church and immigrated to Spanish Fork and Bountiful. A museum to the Saints on the second floor of their library.

I went about 15 km above the speed limit and it wasn’t a problem as long as you identify the robo cop locations in advance. A major one is the tunnel coming back into Reykjavik.

One of the coolest places on the planet.
