The only downside to fasting before the procedure would be dependent on how deep
your veins are.

I have deep veins. Last week, when I went into the hospital for the procedure, after the standard prep, I was dehydrated and it took 2 nurses and 4 sticks to get an IV set in me. If you usually have wonderful veins, it might not be an issue. If you generally have difficult veins, then fasting will acerbate the challenge to get your IV set up.

They have a test rating for how clean your colon is at time of procedure. It's called the Boston Bowl Preparation Scale. You can get a score of 3 for each of the 3 sections of the colon (left, traverse and right). I got a 9 out of the 9. I have no idea whether this had any effect and it was probably nothing, but just after I'd drink one of the 8oz drinks of the solution, I'd kind of jiggle around to make sure the liquid was lapping up against the sides of my colon to "wash it down". Probably did nothing,
