I live in California and can’t stomach $5.50 a gallon for gas anymore. I have a family car (Honda Pilot) and 2017 Jeep Patriot that my kids drive around. It just hit 90k miles and is showing signs of imminent implosion.

I will get rid of the Jeep and the car will be driven mostly by my 16 year old son (I have a work car I use during the day and usually use the Pilot at night). And eventually by my now 13 yr old daughter. We will also use it to chase around in whenever we can just to avoid using gas.

The car will cost just under 18k. I don’t qualify for the used car rebate so that isn’t a factor here. If my wife or I would be the primary driver I would get a Tesla, but that’s not the case. It doesn’t seem worth it to me to pay about an extra 7k for my son to drive a Tesla.
