It felt like the message was more ... whine about what you want, and
your parents will give in.
I get what you're saying, and that WAS a good message, but it felt severely undermined by the ending. Better would be if they moved, and then found that it was going to be ok in the new home/neighborhood. They thought it was going to be terrible, but it ends up being good for them. That would have been the natural progression of the message they were teaching.
