taking a 2 year break to not advance his running career (in his prime) and not advancing his education is a big sacrifice. A certain percentage of runners never get the motivation back post-mission and who knows if he'll get back to the same level as pre-mission.

A mission is a huge sacrifice for any young man, but especially for ones that have a big opportunity cost in advancing an educational and athletic career.
