Here’s my advice.
We went out there three years ago. 4 boys ages 18-8. Got them all psyched to go find gems at Topaz mountain. Read about the topaz and red beryl stones that are rare and have value if you find them. Took several hammers, rock chisels, and spent most of our time just adjacent to the private quarry that is there. Hammers were the most useful. A small sledge mallet was great. We also took some guns out to blow up our extra zucchini from the garden. We did find about a half cup of topaz which was cool. It was pretty warm so dress accordingly.

After Topaz we told them we were going to go visit a ghost town on the Nevada border. On the way there we took a straw poll of how they were liking the trip. On average we had 1/2 a thumbs up but the 15 yo gave the trip a half joking middle finger.

As we pulled up to the ghost town a 2 month old wire haired pointing griffon ran out to meet us. Our families 9 yo WPG named Scurvy had died suddenly from a heart attack 5 months before. This was the replacement dog we would name Nimrod. The 15 yo loved Scurvy a lot. Getting Nimrod Topaz changed the trip into 2 enthusiastic thumbs up.

So, in conclusion. To have a great trip at Topaz mountain go get a puppy. Otherwise good luck.
