Context matters.

How competitive is the team in games? Are they close, or are they getting blown out regularly? Does the team show promise, or does it appear to have a total lack of direction?

Perhaps equally important, what's the outcome of the game against Utah? Beat Utah, and I imagine a 5-7 or even 4-8 season doesn't seem so bad. Many coaches out there have saved their jobs by beating their main rivals even during a bad season.
