Big programs will drive further into the red which will cause issues as higher ed continues to struggle.

Well managed institutions like BYU will be able to provide a solid foundation and stability.

For example a scenario I see happening at some point:

(insert any public institution with huge athletic debt) sees a massive cutback in funding. Enrollments are down. Player payments get drastically reduced. Essentially layoffs start occurring in college athletics. Talent starts to look for stable institutions rather than the ones offering big pay days that may or may not come to fruition.

Demographics are becoming a serious problem for higher ed. Voters are not going to like the limited dollars being pumped into athletics when they already should be self sustaining with the huge TV deals.
