this was in the original syllabus, but it was never discussed by the professor. His syllabi are poorly organized, always contain contradictions, and are confusing. He has an attitude that students are expected to know every detail of the syllabus, and he should never have to explain it.

So maybe we could have caught this earlier, but this is the first time we noticed it. (Classes started 1 week ago, fwiw.)
