Yes, bleed it first.
Some cars have a little area where you can check up inside and see how the clutch plate is doing without having to disassemble the whole thing. I once had a fluid hose burst and lost all hydraulic pressure. My clutch burned up within about 2 miles. It was pretty rotten.
