Conversely, if a few hundred BYU fans were verbally attacked, hit, roughed up, or otherwise abused by a few hundred drunk UNLV Thugs, I fully expect people to piss and moan.

The generalization is incorrect, but it is based on the actions of some UNLV fans. You can't just brush what happened under the rug and say it is just BYU fans being silly. The crowd was out of control and largely drunk.
