The reality is somewhere between what you and LV Mike are saying.
I had many of the same feelings he did towards the end of the Anae regime. Very vanilla, predictable play calling...and I attributed much of the success - esp on 3rd downs etc - to decision making by Hall and Beck. More so than to the OC. I didn't mind seeing him go with the prosepect of something new...

...that said, you are dead on about how poorly the O has gone the last two years. Stale vanilla that at least looked more like the BYU offense most of us knew and love suddenly became more palatable.

Given the changes, it's not a stretch to think that while next year's O may improve noticeably from 2011 and 2012, it may due as much to 1) a QB situation that is more defined and talented and 2) to improvement to our O-line (and fairly credit Anae some if that happens) than it is to anything large-scale that Anae does.

I'll take any offensive improvement; but I can envision a scenario where Anae becomes regarded as a knight on a white horse when really some of the more glaring offensive woes during Doman's time get "corrected" simply as an artifact of natural change. I guess CB can worry about that when it happens.
