These are averages of ~120 ranking systems
If you look at the comparison for last year, Utah State was 16, and San Jose St. was 22. Don't see how that is favoring the big names. Also, South Carolina, which was terrible for years, ended up at #8. You can nitpick rankings, and I figure that in the middle a difference of 3-4 spots is pretty much negligible, but overall it is hard to argue against these rankings.

So, ~120 people who have developed for the most part unbiased ranking systems that probably do not take the program history into account for the current year rankings. The cumulative wisdom of the crowd says that BYU was 33 spots better than the UU last year. Utah had plenty of chances last year, but went 1-4 against teams from 29-36, 1-7 against teams in the top half of IA, and struggled with Colorado.

Why don't you come up with an objective way of ranking teams based on results, post your algorithm so that we can look at it, and see what the ranking difference between BYU and Utah is for last year?
