John, I appreciate your analysis but I believe you are wrong on this one.
I understand the frustration with the coaching staff and not having a half-court offense. I am just as frustrated, but those things are addressed in the off-season, not during the season, no matter what part of the season the team is in. So if you want to blame the coaching staff, you can't do it for a single game, you would need to blame them for not scheming a half-court style offense during the offseason to prepare for conference play.

Today, however, was on the players. Emery couldn't buy a bucket (or two layups for that matter). The refs had some pretty bad calls and no calls, and Pacific played out of their minds in the first half. That is really the story of the game.

If you do want to place the blame on the coaches, then do so for the lack of a consistent defensive presence. That doesn't need an off-season of scheming to install and work on. Defense should be a focus at every practice. It seems the team just doesn't play with any consistency.

I am not sure why this team can't win back-to-back games against lesser opponents. I would understand if we had a bunch of underclassman but the core of our team are seniors. KC, Fischer, and Austin (Kyle Davis as well) should be able to keep these guys even-keel and not let the stage get to them. We all were frustrated with Bronco trying to be even-keel for all games (including utah...), but I think that is exactly what this bball team needs. They get really hyped one game, then come out really low and flat.

Again, I think the coaching staff isn't to blame for today. The players just didn't hit their shots and didn't play very good perimeter defense in the first half.

Lets hope Coach Rose will see what is happening to his style of play and work in a more consistent half-court offense this off-season.
