...similar problems (but primarily with my knees) for years, and I never ran more than a couple of miles before having to shut it down due to pain. While reading the book, I adjusted my gait/impact to more of a "natural" running motion and found that the pain completely went away. (I wound up over-straining my muscles and tendons from overdoing it right away, so I'd start very slowly when adopting a new running form; you'll be using muscles that you haven't engaged before.)
With a "natural running" gait and impact zone, I also switched out of 12mm-drop running shoes and moved to zero-drop shoes. I tried several, but I've been happy with Saucony Virrata shoes on pavement and New Balance Ionix 3090 series for the treadmill and trails.
Now 2-3 years later, I'm comfortably running 5-7 miles per day about 3-4 days per week.
Take some time to rest/recover, and read a good book (Born to Run) while you do!
